Valencia experienced their fourth loss of the season in La Liga after just nine games. Their defeats have all come away from home, and this time they were losers at the Benito Villamarín stadium, losing 1-0 to Real Betis.
Betis ruled in the first half and scored their goal after just nine minutes, courtesy of Salva Sevilla’s strike from the edge of the area.
Valencia improved as the match progressed but ultimately could not find a breakthrough.
Roberto Soldado in particular had some great chances but Real Betis goalkeeper Adrian equalled his efforts and made a fine save with his legs to repel the Spain international’s best effort three minutes from time.
Pellegrino’s men were unable to take advantages whilst in charge, despite the fact that they had a great deal of chances to equalise, even when the lively Banega came on and attempted to penetrate Real Betis’s organised defense.
A draw may have been a fairer result, but Betis claimed all three points and launched themselves up to a lofty 4th position in the La Liga table.
Unlucky losers Valencia now sit in 9th position, one that they will be disappointed with after nine games this season, collecting just 11 points from a 27.
