Celta Vigo’s chances to avoid relegation coming into this past weekend were bleak and they knew it. They were tied at the bottom of the table with RCD Mallorca, but after a momentous win against Valladolid, Celta’s chances have drastically improved.
Celta came into a hostile José Zorrilla environment, but Gustavo Cabral would help them breathe easier after scoring in the 28th minute. It wasn’t until Iago Aspas completed a penalty just after the beginning of the half that Celta could let out an entire sigh of relief.
Celta Vigo returned to the Primera Division just this past year after 5 years in the Segunda Division, and have no intention of going back. Come Saturday they’ll have to put it all on the line in a home match against Espanyol. With a win, and a loss by Deportivo, Celta are hoping they’ll be able to return again next year to the Primera Division.
