Celta Vigo affirms Abel Resino on the bench

Abel Resino will be Celta’s coach next season. The Vigo club has cleared the doubts regarding the coach who managed to save the Vigo on the last day of matches. The final details of the contract have not been reportedly exactly, but reports say he has surely been extended through June 2014.

Celta Vigo had been so close and on the brink of relegation this past weekend, but they were able to outlast three other teams in Zaragoza, Mallorca, and Deportivo. They came into the weekend taking up one of the three relegation spots, but a win and losses by Zaragoza and Deportivo ensured they would be safe, and possibly the safety of Resino’s job.

In addition, the company has confirmed the renewal of Miguel Torrecilla as sporting director. The club is chaired by Carlos Mouriño, who henceforth will focus on making good signings that will help them avoid having to sweat for relegation at the end of next season.

Celta Vigo set to lose Iago Aspas to Liverpool

celta vigo strikerCelta Vigo are enduring enough pressure this week as they head into their last match with a slight chance to avoid relegation. Now they will have to endure the loss of their best forward Iago Aspas as they head into the offseason.

Celta Vigo and Liverpool have come to terms on a deal to move the Spaniard for €9.5 million, which will pay the player €1.6 million after tax throughout the duration of his contract. There was reportedly a €10 million buyout for the Aspas which would become €7 million if Celta are relegated, so in advance of that both sides settled on the €9.5 million figure.

Nothing will be made official just yet, as Celta will wait until the end of the season. Aspas has spent his entire career at Celta, scoring 28 goals in 122 appearances.

Real Betis has three matches remaining in the season, with a contest next Monday against Mallorca. Celta Vigo finishes the season with Valladolid and Espanyol.
