The father of Lionel Messi believes that his son will finish his career at Barcelona and it would take something drastic for the player to ever want to move to another club.
The 25-year-old attacking sensation recently re-wrote history when he surpassed Gerd Muller’s record of having scored the most ever goals in a calender year, and the Argentine has well and truly cemented his place in the hearts of Barca fans with many years ahead of him in his illustrious career.
Messi is a La Masia graduate, like so many other great players that came through the club’s youth system and feels a strong bond to the giant Spanish club who have nurtured him and helped him to become the player is today.
The agile play-maker has always hinted that he would remain at Barcelona for the remainder of his career, and it is easy to see why when he and his teammates are swimming in superlatives and a collection of trophies, with no sign of that letting up.
Jorge Messi, Lionel’s father, believes his incredible offspring will stay loyal to the club that have been so good to the Messi family, and that the World Player of the Year may even consider extending his current contract that does not expire until 2016.
The proud father is wise enough to know that football can be unpredictable and sometimes strange things can happen in the sport, but almost completely ruled out the possibility of Lionel moving on to challenge himself elsewhere.
“Only a catastrophe would see him leave Barcelona,” said Jorge Messi.
“It’s impossible to think Leo can go and play in another team.
“He has always said he intends to end his career with this (Barcelona) shirt.”
