Atlético and Málaga within touching distance of the last 16

Atlético made their first step to the last 16 of the Spanish Cup after defeating Real Jaén (0-3) in the first leg of their game.

The match began with both sides battling equally but that changed half way through the first half.

Malaga and Athletico put one step into the next roundAtlético were awarded a penalty after some good play down Silvio’s wing and Dani Torres was sent off, meaning the already challenging night was becoming impossible for Jaén.

Jaén had performed fearlessly and put Courtois to the test. Following the penalty, which Diego Costa fired home to open the scoring, it was plain cruising for an Atlético, and in reality, they never really needed to move their performance up a gear.
