The executive board of Athletic has unanimously decided not to renew coach Marcelo Bielsa as team manager. It puts an end to a relationship of two seasons for both parties. “It is normal that the club partners believe what could be the best option, but it was left to us to make a decision,” said Josu Urrutia, president of the club.
Urrutia made public the decision on Friday and justified it as an institutional and sporting decision. “It wasn’t discussed with the players,” he said when asked if the decision had been agreed with them. “From this point forward we will as we start working on hiring a new coach, he said.
Ernesto Valverde has already met with representatives of the company this morning. “We look for a good profile from a sporting perspective and hope he can be integrated into the institution as soon as possible,” said Urrutia on a future manager.
