Di Matteo: Any manager would want Falcao
Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo claims that ‘any manager’ would love to buy Radamel Falcao and have him at their club, and mentioned that Chelsea may well be looking to buy a striker in the January transfer window.
The European champions are one of the favourites to sign the Atletico Madrid star and now find themselves at the centre of a speculation storm.
Many reports suggest Di Matteo may make a move for the Colombian frontman, with some rumours claiming he could pay nearly £50 million, the same as current Chelsea striker Fernando Torres cost the club, who has suffered a miserable few seasons in London after joining from Liverpool.
It has even been suggested that a swap deal could be in place to send Torres back to his former club in La Liga in some kind of exchange deal with the strikers.
But the Blues boss Di Matteo prefers not to speak too much about players at other clubs and only let his admiration for Atletico ace Falcao show through briefly.
“If you ask any manager, he would have him in his team,” said the Chelsea manager.
“He is one of the best strikers, probably, in European and world football.
“His ratio of goals per game is quite impressive, not just this season but over the last three seasons, at Porto and Atletico Madrid.”
With Victor Moses set to head off to join up with Nigeria in January for the African Nations Cup, Chelsea will be left short of players that could fill in for Torres and Daniel Sturridge, something that Di Matteo is well aware of.
“We’re looking at that, because we’ll lose Victor and John Obi Mikel for that tournament,” said Di Matteo.
“We’ll look and see how we deal with it, but for the moment we’re okay.”
